Welcome to the Urtau Tauerna In 1963 we opened our first tauerna in the town of Arties, Val d’Aran.  The first generation of the family, our parents, Rafael and Montserrat decided to make a move from their careers to open a small town tauerna in Arties. Rafael was employed in an electric company and Montserrat had worked as a cook from an early age.

Keeping in line with the original concept of offering quality eating and drinking moments, we initially served typical local dishes such as tripe, snails, squid, pork feet, etc. From the beginning we have been faithful to our primary goal: Offering a good product in a nice, clean establishment with fast and friendly service.

In 1990 we began to incorporate the pinchos and dried sausage platters to our menu as an addition to our main menu. To our pleasant surprise what was originally intended to be an “addition” became our most important product. We now complement these products with tapas and other homemade delights.

Seeing the warm welcome the pinchos had in Arties, we set a new goal of getting our innovative cooking to every corner of the Val d’Aran. Thus, in 2001 we opened our second restaurant in Bossòst and the third in Vielha in 2009.

In the summer of 2011 we opened our fourth restaurant in Palamos (Costa Brava, Girona) and on March 2012 we opened the fifth restaurant in Girona (city). Here we hope to keep growing and sharing our cuisine with an even wider audience.
